CapMeter vs. Usage for Claude

Guide · updated 2026-09-15

These two are the closest comparison on the whole App Store: same category, same store, both reading the same claude.ai account rather than local CLI files. I make CapMeter, so treat the framing accordingly — but the questions below are the ones I'd actually want answered before paying for either.

Do they read the same data?

Yes. Both sign you into claude.ai inside the app and read your account-level session and weekly usage. There's no data advantage either way here — this comes down to what each app does with the number once it has it.

What does each one cost?

CapMeter: $9.99 once (a launch price; regular price is $14.99), 14-day free trial, no subscription after that. Usage for Claude: free to download, then $5.99/month for Pro or a $17.99 in-app purchase — pay monthly for a year and you're at roughly $71, well past CapMeter's one-time price.

Does Usage for Claude predict when I'll hit the limit?

Its own App Store listing describes a prediction feature, but places it inside the history screen rather than the main popup you open first. CapMeter shows the same kind of estimate — a time like "limit in ~1h 18m", not just a percentage — right where you land.

Can either alert me somewhere other than the app itself?

CapMeter can push threshold alerts to Slack, Discord, or any HTTP webhook, with quiet hours so they don't fire overnight. I don't see webhook or Slack/Discord alerts mentioned anywhere in Usage for Claude's listing — if that's changed, let me know and I'll correct this.

What does Usage for Claude have that CapMeter doesn't?

iPhone and Apple Watch apps with iCloud sync between them. CapMeter is Mac-only — if you want the number on your wrist or your phone, that's the one built for it.

If you want the number on more devices, Usage for Claude covers that. If you want one payment instead of a subscription, and alerts that land somewhere other than a glance at your Mac, that's what I built CapMeter for.
