Claude Burn-Rate Calculator

Free tool · updated 2026-09-16

Two numbers tell you more than the percentage alone: how much you've used, and how long it took. Enter both and this works out your burn rate, then tells you whether you'll hit your limit before the 5-hour window resets on its own — the same math CapMeter runs automatically in your menu bar.

The math, if you want to check it

Burn rate = usage % ÷ minutes elapsed. Divide the remaining percentage (100 − current) by that rate to get minutes left at the current pace. Compare that to what's left in the 5-hour window (300 minutes − minutes elapsed) — whichever runs out first is what actually happens to you.

What this doesn't account for

This assumes a steady pace for the rest of the window — a long agent run or a sudden burst of heavy prompts moves the estimate a lot, in either direction. It also only covers the session window; there's a separate weekly cap layered on top that this calculator doesn't touch, and its reset timing is less exact than it looks. If you're regularly hitting the wall early, here's what actually helps.

The reason CapMeter exists instead of a bookmark to this page: it reads the real numbers off your account automatically, every refresh, instead of you typing them in by hand each time you're wondering.
